BASKETS!
Becky Wilson
Hello Everyone, Well it’s fall, and that means it’s once again time for the Carroll County Chapter American Wine Society Educational Fund Raiser. Aren’t you all glad I only do this once a year? At the August meeting the members present overwhelmingly voted that I should do it again, so here we go. For those of you that have joined in the last two years, here’s the scoop - It was mentioned to me six years ago that it was time for a new infusion of funds into the Ham Mowbray Educational Fund, I turned my attention towards that which I do best: coming up with a scheme. Well, it’s been a big hit in the past, so here is how it works. Each household that wishes to participate will donate: 1 bottle of wine with a at least a $10.00 (yes, after discount, not retail) and A check for at least $25.00 made out to “A.W.S.E.F.” Mail it to me at the address above, or hand it to me at one of the next three meetings in September, October, or November. (I can purchase the wine for you , but you will need to give me a separate check payable to “Becky Wilson” or "Cash" ) That gets you your drawing slip. I will take the donated bottles of wine and other donated items and put them into big beautiful gift baskets. In the past, the baskets have held 4-5 bottles of wine as well as lots of other wine- goodies. Finally, at the Champagne Tasting, in December, we will hold a drawing for those baskets, which should be VERY nice with high participation, and the chances of winning are also quite high, as drawings go. I will pick up donations, just call me [phone no. redacted]. I will do whatever is needed to continue making this a success. Remember, all of your money donated goes to the fund. Dean and I fund the rest of the basket costs, along with various other donations by members. As in the past, Dean and I will donate our personal themed basket to start things off. Look for a picture on the website. This year the theme is MOVIE TIME. The basket will include a DVD copy of the FANTASTIC video Dean made and presented at our last meeting (But Can They Make Wine?); many of the wines tasted at that meeting; a DVD copy of the hit movie Sideways and lots of other things needed for a great night at the movies, popcorn etc… We will also be donating a bottle of Champagne for each of the wine baskets. The next scholarship we hope to fund will honor two more of our founding members, Joe and Nattie Wood. Hope to see you all soon, Becky

Hello Everyone, Well, it’s fall, and that means it’s once again time for the Carroll County Chapter American Wine Society Educational Fund Raiser. Aren’t you all glad we only do this once a year? First, a big THANK YOU to those who have already donated, and Best of Luck in the drawing! For those of you that have joined recently, here’s the scoop - It was mentioned to me many years ago that it was time for a new infusion of funds into the Ham Mowbray Educational Fund, so I turned my attention towards that which I do best: coming up with a scheme. Well, it’s been a big hit in the past, so here is how it works: Each household that wishes to participate (and have a chance to win) will do either of the following: Donate 1 bottle of wine worth at least $10.00 (yes, after discount, not retail) AND A check for at least $25.00 made out to “A.W.S.E.F.” And hand them to Pennee Parker, the wine host at the next meeting. If you can’t make it to the meeting, you can write TWO checks One check for at least $10.00 payable to “Pennee Parker” or “Cash” and she will purchase the wine for you AND One check for at least $25.00 made out to “A.W.S.E.F.” directly toward the fund. Mail these to Pennee Parker  [address redacted] That gets you your drawing slip! DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS THE MEETING ON NOVEMBER 21st. And your donation is tax deductible! Pennee and Emily will take the bottles of wine and other donated items and put them into big beautiful gift baskets. In the past, the baskets have held 4-5 bottles of wine as well as lots of other wine-goodies. Finally, at the Champagne Tasting in December, we will hold a drawing for those baskets, which should be VERY nice with high participation, and the chances of winning are also quite high, as drawings go. As in the past, Dean and I will donate our personal themed basket to start things off. Look for a picture on the website. This year the theme is Vanilla. For those of you that are wine makers and have gone the extra mile in the past by donating bottles of your own wine to be used in an additional basket to be auctioned at the tasting, and is NOT a drawing prize. Please get in touch with me for pick up or delivery or give your bottles to DEAN at the November meeting. The scholarship we are currently funding is in honor of founding members, Jack and Emily Johnston. We should reach that goal this year and start funding our next one which will honor our good friend and much missed member, Bill Brown. Thanking you all in advance. Hope to see you all soon, Becky
